Sandra is a research division master
inventor at IBM, where she holds 10 patents with another three pending. She really made her name as a part of the design team that developed the prototype for IBM's Deep Blue, which beat world chess champion, Garry
Kasparov.
Ms. Johnson is now the manager of IBM's WebSphere Database Development in Silicon Valley. She says that the Internet is changing
the way we do just about everything, "and if you are skilled in that technology and how it operates, then you are of value to the society." She has been featured widely in
magazines (Black Enterprise cover March 2001 and March 1998 feature; Science, March 29, 1996; The Black Collegian magazine, 1991) as well as IBM advertisements and
publications. She was also profiled in Minerva's Machine: Women in Computing, a documentary appearing on PBS in 1996.Topics
